When choosing an internet provider, you want the network to be managed by people who truly know what they are doing. But how can that be proven? One way is through certification that is tested in practice, not just claimed.
The good news: a GISNET engineer has earned the Hurricane Electric IPv6 certification at the Sage level, the highest level of the programme. What does that mean, and why does it matter to you? Read on.
Who Is Hurricane Electric?
Hurricane Electric (HE) is an international internet network company that operates one of the largest IPv6 backbone networks in the world, and also runs tunnelbroker.net, widely used to learn IPv6. HE also runs an online IPv6 certification programme that is well known among network engineers.
Not a Memory Test, but a Practical One
What makes this certification special: to move up a level, candidates must prove directly that the systems they manage really work over IPv6. Hurricane Electric's servers test the candidate's systems themselves. Broadly, the levels look like this:

- Explorer: a working IPv6 connection.
- Enthusiast: a website reachable over IPv6.
- Administrator: a mail server that can receive email over IPv6.
- Professional: correctly configured IPv6 reverse DNS.
- Guru: a DNS server that answers over IPv6.
- Sage: a domain that can be fully resolved over IPv6, all the way to the registrar (IPv6 glue record).
Each level also includes questions on IPv6 concepts such as address format, prefixes, and network testing tools. Reaching Sage therefore means having proven the skills from basic connectivity all the way to DNS infrastructure, all over IPv6.
Backed by Official IDNIC–APJII Training
In addition to the Hurricane Electric certification, the GISNET team has also completed IPv6 Advanced training from IDNIC–APJII, the organisation that manages internet addresses in Indonesia. The certificates can be seen on our Licences page.
Put to Work in the GISNET Network
This certificate is not just for display. The skills tested by Hurricane Electric are things we do every day:
- A full IPv6 network for all customers, running alongside IPv4 (dual-stack). Read GISNET is now full IPv6.
- Well-organised reverse DNS for all of our address blocks, so the GISNET network is identified correctly by other networks.
- Our own network, AS149697, directly connected to more than 140 networks. Read our own network AS149697.
- Monitored by our NOC 24 hours a day, with 24/7 technical support for every plan.
What Does It Mean for You?
For customers, this certification means one thing: your connection is looked after by people whose skills have been tested. When something goes wrong, the team handling it understands how the network works from the basics to the deepest layers, including next-generation internet technology.
