Our Own Network, AS149697: Why GISNET Internet Is More Reliable

GISNET runs its own network (AS149697), directly connected to more than 140 networks including Meta. See for yourself with our Looking Glass.

When choosing an internet provider, most people only compare speed and price. Yet there is one important factor that is rarely discussed: how the network connects to the internet. This is what determines whether WhatsApp, Instagram, video calls, and your favorite apps run smoothly or keep stuttering.

In this article we openly show you what goes on "behind the scenes" of the GISNET network. You can verify all of the data below yourself on public websites.

GISNET Has Its Own Network: AS149697

Every major network on the internet has an official identity called an ASN (Autonomous System Number). Think of it as a network's "registration number" on the map of the global internet. These numbers are registered with APNIC, the organization that manages internet addresses for the Asia-Pacific region.

GISNET has its own ASN: AS149697, complete with its own IPv4 and IPv6 address blocks. This means we control where your data goes and which paths it takes, rather than simply reselling someone else's connection.

Directly Connected to More Than 140 Networks

Imagine you want to travel to a neighboring town. You have two options: take a winding road through many intersections, or take a direct toll road. On the internet, that "toll road" is called peering: two networks connected directly to each other, with no middleman.

According to public data from bgp.tools (October 2026), the GISNET network is directly connected to more than 140 networks, including:

  • Meta: the network behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
  • Akamai: a content delivery network (CDN) used by many major websites and apps.
  • Various ISPs and data centers in Indonesia, including Biznet.

By number of peers, GISNET is even listed among roughly the top 50 in Indonesia on bgp.tools.

For you, a more direct route generally means lower latency (ping) and a more stable connection, especially for the apps you use every day such as WhatsApp and Instagram.

Present at Internet Exchange Points

Besides direct connections, GISNET is also connected to Internet Exchange points (IX), where many networks meet and exchange traffic:

  • JKT-IX Surabaya with a 10 Gbps port.
  • ODIX.

This way, access to domestic services can stay on short paths within Indonesia, without detouring overseas.

Routes Protected Against Hijacking (RPKI)

On the internet, network routes can be "hijacked" or wrongly announced by other parties, causing traffic to go astray. To prevent this there is a security standard called RPKI. All GISNET address blocks carry valid RPKI signatures, so other networks can verify that routes to GISNET are genuine.

Already Full IPv6

The GISNET network is also full IPv6 with the 2401:f60::/32 address block, ready for the future of the internet. Read the explanation in our article GISNET is now full IPv6.

Don't Just Take Our Word for It, Check It Yourself!

We provide a Looking Glass, a tool network engineers typically use to test routes and response times directly from an ISP's network. Anyone can use it, free of charge:

  1. Open lg.gis.net.id.
  2. Fill in the Target field with a website address or IP, for example whatsapp.com or detik.com.
  3. Choose ping (response time), traceroute (the path taken), or MTR (a combination of both).
  4. Press Execute and see the results live.

GISNET Looking Glass: test ping, traceroute, and MTR directly from our server in Gresik, over both IPv4 and IPv6.

Our network data is also publicly listed on PeeringDB, bgp.tools, and bgp.he.net. A summary is available on our Legal & Certifications page.

What Does This Mean for You?

  • Smoother WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook thanks to a direct path to Meta's network.
  • More stable video calls and online meetings, plus upload speeds as fast as download.
  • A network maintained by a team that knows its stuff: our team is IPv6-certified and the network is monitored by our NOC 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • A serious local provider: our office and technicians are in Gresik, with infrastructure on par with the big providers.
